Music and Life

Andy Brems is a guitarist and music educator based in Los Angeles. Originally from San Diego, he began his early training studying with renowned guitarist Wolf Marshall before continuing his formal education at the University of Southern California, where he is completing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Studio Guitar. He earned his bachelor’s degree from USC as a double major in Jazz Studies and Cognitive Science, reflecting a strong interest in the psychology of teaching and learning music.

Andy performs regularly across Southern California in a variety of settings, including a jazz trio and a jazz voice–guitar duo. His playing draws from jazz, pop, rock, and blues traditions, reflecting a versatile approach to contemporary guitar performance.

As an educator, Andy teaches guitar at Pierce College and has extensive experience teaching guitar, bass, and keyboard to students of all ages and backgrounds. His students have gone on to study at institutions including Berklee College of Music, California State University Northridge, and Musicians Institute. In addition to private instruction, he has taught beginner guitar courses at the university level, focusing on practical musicianship and accessible pathways into music study.

Andy’s work centers on helping students build strong musical foundations while developing the skills needed to thrive in today’s diverse musical landscape.
